Your injury comes before the offer

Tissue repair
telehealth,
before you choose.

Looking for help with an injury, a sore joint or a wound? Here, tissue repair means healing a part of the body. This plain-language guide helps you understand online care. Begin with the problem you want assessed, then look at the offer.

Start with the care you need

Telehealth means discussing care through a screen, call or online exchange.

Guidance checked in September 2026 calls for in-person follow-up when an exam or test is needed.

Note A

The recommendations are addressed to state medical boards, which oversee doctors. The rules a doctor must follow come from the state.

Ask what the clinician can assess remotely and what would need another visit. Clinicians are health professionals whose work includes assessing or treating people.

Is this real care?

Your location during the visit determines which state must permit the prescriber to practise, through a licence or another permitted route, as of September 2026.

Note B

A prescriber is a health professional who can write a prescription: an order for medicine.

Ask for the person’s full name and the board that holds their record. Keep that check separate from the drug question.

  1. Medical-board guidance on remote assessment

The Federation of State Medical Boards recommends how online care should work. Ask the board in your state which rules apply to your visit.

  2. Federal health guidance on state permission

The patient’s location matters. A full state licence is not the only permitted route in every state.
