Find a route, then verify it

Look for an assessment you can check.

Would you rather start online or in a room? Either way, look for someone who can assess your health problem. Ask about medicines after that discussion.

Look closer · a learning step

Choose where to start care

Ask for the clinician’s name, role and the board holding their record. Ask whether a live discussion is offered and how follow-up questions are handled.

The state medical-board directory links to boards that keep doctors’ records.

Note A

Choose the board covering your location for the visit. For other clinician roles, ask for the matching licensing board.

Read the state-permission check

Starting with an in-person assessment

Ask an in-person clinic about assessing your injury or other health problem. Ask what records to bring and what treatment choices you can discuss.

Needed tests or a referral for care should follow an incomplete remote assessment, according to medical-board guidance checked during September 2026.

Note B

This is guidance for boards, not a promise that every service follows it.

Ask the online service where it would refer you if an exam became necessary.

If a medicine is discussed, name the pharmacy

Ask which pharmacy would handle its preparation and delivery, then write down that pharmacy’s name before checking its record.

FDA’s licence-search page links to state pharmacy records.

Note C

The Food and Drug Administration reviews drugs at the federal level; FDA is its short name.

Finding the pharmacy in the state board’s records confirms it has a licence. It does not show that the medicine it would supply is right for you.

Ask the prescriber why that exact medicine is proposed. Ask the pharmacy whether it may supply it.
